Once you are connected to a network, then some resources might be mapped for you automatically. If your network is a domain based network, then it is possible that your network administrator has set up some login scripts. These are scripts that are executed when you log into the network, and may well do things like map your drives and attach your printers.

Windows uses letters to refer to drives within your computer - you can see this in Windows Explorer. By Convention, Windows uses drive letter C onwards to represent drives - so your hard drive is probably drive C. If you have a CD or DVD ROM then it may be drive D.
Windows Explorer will also allow you to map a network share to a drive letter.
